Day 1; Arrival in Addis Ababa
Arrive in Addis Ababa, meet and greet at the Airport and transfer to your hotel. After checking in take a city tour of Addis Ababa which includes;
- “Entoto” mountain for panoramic view of Addis Ababa and visit St. Mary church found on top of the mountain for its best Museum collections.
- The National Museum, where “Lucy” – the 3.2 million-year-old Hominid is kept.
- “Merkato”, one of the largest open-air markets in Africa.
Overnight at Hotel.
Day 2; Bahir Dar
Drive to Bahir Dar. Visit Debre Libanos monastery and the Blue Nile gorge. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 3; Bahir Dar
Continue, Drive to the Blue Nile falls (Tis Issat) for about 45 minutes from Bahir Dar followed 30 minutes’ walk from the main road to the falls. Here, experience the eye catching view when the Blue Nile starts its journey to the Mediterranean. These amazing waterfalls are 400 meters wide and more than 45 meters height. Afternoon boat excursion on Lake Tana to visit the Lake monasteries of Ura Kidane Mehret and Zeghie Peninsula. Overnight at hotel.
Day 4; Gondar
Drive to Gondar and in the afternoon visit the castles compound, Ruin palaces, Bath of King Fasiledes (1632-1667 G.C) and Debre Birhan Silassie Church famous for its wall and ceiling paints of 18th Century. Overnight at hotel.
Day 5; Axum
Full day drive to Axum and short stop on the way. (360km). Overnight at hotel.
Day 6; Axum
Continue, Axum was the kingdom that dominated Africa and Asia for a thousand years. In the morning visit St. Mary of Zion church where the Ark of the Covenant resides brought by King Solomon and Queen of Sheba’s son “Menelik” almost 3000 years ago. In the afternoon, visit the museum, Obelisks and Stele and the Castle Ruins of King Kaleb and Queen of Sheba’s Bath and Palace. Overnight at hotel.
Day 7; Lalibela
Take a flight to Lalibela.( set at 2,600 m. above sea level ) At the end of the 12th and beginning of the 13th centuries, King Lalibela of the Zaghwe dynasty built a series of rock hewn churches, rightly acknowledged as one of the wonders of the world. After arrival visit the first group eleven monolithic and semi monolithic rock hewn churches of Lalibela. Overnight at Lodge.
Day 8; Lalibela
Continue, visit the second group of rock hewn churches of Lalibela. Later in the evening, after taking a break drive to a local restaurant that arrange as well authentic folkloric daces of the Amhara people so enjoy the dance after having your meal and drinks. This creates an opportunity to enjoy the Ethiopian coffee ceremony.
Day 9; Lalibela – Addis Ababa – Harar
In the morning, fly back to Addis Ababa and make a flight connection to Dire Dawa. And then transfer to the town of Harar. (54km Drive)
Harar remained a center of religious favor from early days of the Islamic expansion until 1887, when the authority of the central government was restored by Emperor Menelik II. With its 99 Mosques, Harar is considered to be Islam’s fourth most Holy City. There is a visit of the house of the French Poet, Rimbaud, as his city of exile from French intolerance. In the evening a visit hyena feeding. Overnight at Ras Hotel, Harar.
Day 10; Harar – Dire Dawa – Addis Ababa
In the morning, followed by more sightseeing tour of Harar transfer back to Dire Dawa. And visit one of the colorful market of fruits, vegetables and the old rail way station of Dire Dawa. Finally fly back to Addis Ababa and transfer to Bole international airport.
