Day 1; Addis Ababa – Mekelle
Visiting Addis Ababa – This offer is a full day city tour through the main attractions of Addis Ababa starting with a visit to the Entoto Mountain, where the city was first established, the Ethnographic Museum, the perfect introduction to the Ethiopian culture and lifestyles, the National Museum, home to ancient fossils, the Trinity Cathedral, where Haile Selassie’s is buried and Merkato, the largest open market in Africa. Later in the evening fly to Mekelle. Pick up from Alula Aba Nega airport, Mekelle and check in to Hatsey Yohannes Hotel, Mekelle.
Day 2; Mekelle – Erta Ale
Visiting Erta Ale – Drive to Kasrawad, here where we will have lunch and arrange the Local militia and local guide. After driving for 25km, in the late afternoon, start walking to Erta Ale. Around 5pm, 3 hours trek climb to Erta Ale volcano. Erta Ale is 613 meters height, with a lava lake, and is one of the only five in the world. It is notable for being the longest existing lava lake, present since the early years of the twentieth century. Overnight on the top of the mountain.
Day 3; Erta Ale – Ahmed Ela
Continue: Around 9am we will be at the foot base of the volcanic mountain where our cook and cars camp. Thereafter we will have our breakfast and drive to Ahmed Ela. When we arrive at Ahmed Ela, before sunset we will travel a short distance to Lake Karum to watch the sunset from the salt flats on the lake. The water level on the lake is very shallow so it’s easy to walk out and around on the lake. And then drive back to Ahmed Ela. Dinner and overnight camping in the open air of Ahmed Ela.
Day 4; Dallol – Mekelle
Visiting Dallol – rise early and travel over the low waters of Lake Assaele. Once we arrive at the base of a small mountain, we’ll hike up to see the Sulphur springs of Dallol. The colors and rock formations that you will see here are hard to believe. From Dallol, we will drive back across the salt lake stopping off to see how the local Afar people mine and harvest the salt. This is probably one of the toughest jobs in the world. Drive back to Mekelle.
Day 5; Mekelle – Lalibela
Visiting Lalibela- After breakfast, Drive to Lalibela to have an excursion trip to the f rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela. When we arrive in the city of Lalibela you will see the first group monolithic and semi-monolithic structures of Eleven Rock hewn Churches:

Day 6; Lalibela
Continue- In the morning drive to the second group of rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela, Yemrehanna Kristos, and the beautiful church situated in a shallow cave that predates the churches of Lalibela. And it will also give you the opportunity to view the rural countryside and villages of the Ethiopian highlands. In the afternoon continue visiting the remaining of the first group of the eleven rock hewn churches of Lalibela. Overnight at Zan Seyoum Hotel, Lalibela.
Day 7; Lalibela – Addis Ababa – Harar
Visiting Harar- In the morning, fly back to Addis Ababa and make a flight connection to Dire Dewa. And then transfer to the town of Harar. (54km Drive)
Harar remained a center of religious favor from early days of the Islamic expansion until 1887, when the authority of the central government was restored by Emperor Menelik II. With its 99 Mosques, Harar is considered to be Islam’s fourth most Holy City. There is a visit of the house of the French Poet, Rimbaud, as his city of exile from French intolerance. In the evening a visit hyena feeding. Overnight at Ras Hotel, Harar.
Day 8; Harar – Dire Dawa – Addis Ababa
Visiting Dire Dawa- In the morning, followed by more sightseeing tour of Harar transfer back to Dire Dawa. And visit one of the colorful market of fruits, vegetables and the old rail way station of Dire Dawa. Finally fly back to Addis Ababa and transfer to Bole international airport.
